Uhm, sorry ya'l;l, this may be a dumb question.. But I was bored (at work), and messing with my remote (aftrer seeing the image of the "Stun/Kill" remote. Gawd, I love that thing. )
Anyways, I went into my 'Settings' Menu, and saw an option:
"TA On". I selected it. Go back, and it now says, "TA Off".
AFAICT, it changes nothing on diasply/sound side.. What'zit do? I didn't see an entry in the FAQ (and don't have my manual here..)
Oh, I'm on B13.

Mike "No, I didn't say T&A. Just TA." Morrey.

TA = Traffic Announce

It's an RDS feature that allows the HU, even if playing CD/MP3/other channel etc, to switch to a radio channel that is broadcasting Traffic Announcements.

As I understand it, not very useful in the US, where not many stations use RDS, and some that do abuse the TA flag and continuosly transmit it...

Edit: should've checked... beaten by the master again

..Ahh.. see, I said it was a dumb querstion. (I searched for 'TA On'. Searching for just 'TA' brought up everything...)
And it's a pretty pointless thing to have in the US.
Why am I not suprised.

Gratzi,
Me.

The US is pointless. I think that's why.

The TA function on the player is pretty poor anyway.

Isnt this something that has been resolved in an internal software build ?

Works perfectly well for me, why, have you got issues? What version are you running?

I think I reported as a bug when I first got the tuners, if I didn't I certainly meant to, that the traffic announcements are at a much lower volume than the radio/ MP3's.

Having said which I never leave the TA feature switched on, because, as well as the traffic announcement you want, it gives you all the surrounding ones. On my twelve mile journey to Leeds, it gives me 8 different traffic reports in a 100 mile radius.

I understand we're in for an RDS upgrade fairly shortly, when problems with airport interference are sorted.

On my new Dodge RAM Infinity system it has the RDS logo, but the way it's used is to select certain types of radio stations. There are something like 6 types to select and it scans the stations and stops on say news, classical or rock, depending on what you tell it to search for. It would find one news station most of the time. empeg is now in it's place...

That's another function in the RDS - Program Type (PTY IIRC)
Here's a good starting site for RDS.

BTW, RDS/TA just today saved me about 60 minutes in queues due to an accident - took alternate route and only lost about 5 minutes...

LOL! Thanks for the explanation, the salesman said it was a "party line" setting and showed me how it worked. The button it labelled PTY. The man did not know a damn thing about diesel trucks, either. On delivery he was able to go over what the average vehicle driver needs to know. AC, radio, etc. Couldn't even tell me about the break-in schedule for a diesel... I'm dying to get the customer satisfaction survey from DC...

Running 2b13. On my empeg, TA's are only switched from the station that you were listening to before going to MP3 play.

If a radio station broadcasts a TA, the player does not divert to it UNLESS it happens to be the radio station you were last listening to.

I don't have a tuner for my MKII (which is all I had when I was in the UK) but here is how my Alpine used to work.

If you were listening to a local radio station before switching sources and you have TA turned on then the HU would switch back when that station transmitted TA info.
If you were listening to a national (BBCR1 in my case) station then it would flick to ANY of the local BBC stations in the area transmitting TA info (I guess overlaying the TA info and the local station frequency on the R1 frequency) this meant being near the edge of several stations meant almost constant TA info.

Just what I used to see, and may explain things depending on what you have your tuner set to, rather than what SW version you have.

You bet! The funny part was he kept stressing that any mark other than the far left is a failure to the GM of the dealership. He also mentioned that the only reason they keep their 5 Star rating is due to the Service Dept. Well I believe they have identified the problem now they need to fix it....

I've always found the post-purchase show-you-how-to-roll-down-the-windows talk to be pretty annoying. I guess for some people it's a good thing, but each time i've researched it far more than the salesmen have(which is odd considering they do it for a living), and I know more about whatever car I just bought. I also amazingly enough read the manual from cover to cover as soon as I get a car...

The surveys are a good thing, as it's the quickest way for a dealership to find out if the service department is screwing up and costing them a sale five years down the road. The three letters they send you about giving them all 5s does seem sort of excessive.

I just always haggle for 4 hours straight and by the time we get to that point I tell them I have no time left, at this point the salespeople are happy to get me out the door and don't argue
